Board design

There are a number of different design factors to consider when choosing your board. All will affect how the board handles in different wave conditions and how it will respond to surfers of different sizes and skill levels. This is why it is best to consult an experienced shaper and have a board custom made to your size, local wave type and skill level.

Bottom

Flat:    Flatness gives simplicity making for speed in all conditions
Single Concave:    Concaves are great in clean hollow waves allowing hold through tight turns
Double Concave:   Double concaves in the tail gives squirt off the bottom
Vee:     Vee allows ease in rail to rail transition and creates stability, Reverse Vee is great for carving smooth  turns and hooking into the pocket
Six Channel: Provides excellent holding power in big waves, great for the experienced surfer

Tail Design

Rounded Square:     Definitely the most popular as the greater tail area gives more speed. Fast in any type of wave
Round:    Smooth ride, allowing slightly more directional change than a pin tail
Swallow:    Feels in between square tail and rounded pin tail
Pin:     Great for big carves, holding in powerful waves and riding deep in the tube

Rail Design

Mid:    The mid rail is the perfect all rounder as it is forgiving and great for the beginner
Boxy:    The boxy rail gives a corky feel when pushed under the water by the more powerful  surfer. The board doesn't stop and pushes back, hence the corky feel.
Low:    The low rail gives a knifey feel, suited more to the advanced surfer. Good in sucky, fast waves and it is very sensitive.
